Our school had a wonderful time recently with a balloon launch that represented how education could lift our dreams to the sky! The idea came from Miss D. and with a little modification the whole school was able to get involved. All our students took the time in class to write down their life or educational goals. We then met together in the Gym for a little inspiration and a talk about how education can help take you anywhere. Then, each student received a balloon and tied their goal too it. We gathered outside on the lawn and as one, let the balloons go. It was a moving moment and many of the students were touched by the symbolism and the activity, and everyone had fun!

We had an excellent program come to our school today. It was all about Farm Safety. Mr. Angevine used models, toys, and lots of stories to help us understand how to be safe on the Farm. Thanks, it is a timely lesson as we find ourselves more and more outside as spring comes.

Being invited to the grade 9 Home Ec class is always a treat. Recently out students competed to see who could make the best home-made burgers. Of course they needed a judge, and I was lucky enough to be around! The food was great, and I was surprised at how many students said they never made home-made burgers at home. Now they have the skill and knowledge; I hope they surprise their homes soon and cook up some great BBQ! Thanks for having me class.

Wonderful to see our grade one and two students light with excitement each time they take out their iPads for LA or Math. The amount of immediate and personal feedback they get when learning to spell is amazing.

It was fun this morning to come across our 3/4 class starting off their Physical Ed portfolios. They were doing the flexed arm hang. I remember that as a kid. The sore stomach, the trembling arms. What I don't remember is the cheering. These kids were right in to it. Cheering each other on to stay up longer. Good spirit class, keep up the support.

I have been here for 8 months, and I did not know we had a music program with instruments! The 3-4s were so excited to show me their white ribbons. They earn them by playing with perfect fingering and breathing. With brain research supporting music in schools, this is just awesome!

We were treated to a BBQ at the arena by our excellent agriculture society today. Then, after taking care of us we learned about ATV safety, fire arm safety, and lawnmower and tractor safety. Thanks for the down to earth learning!

The link between artistic expression and student success is strong and worth paying attention too. Yet many times small schools feel squeezed just to get "core" programming for their students. Tonight our division celebrates Jr art. I'm proud of our small display. I wonder about how I can promote this more in our school. Would a more prominent place in our show case help?

Today is our 27th annual Mukluk Days! Our school is divided up into cross grade teams. We will spend the day competing in a variety of events focused on celebrating team work and cooperation in the great outdoors. We've already launched with team cheer competitions. What a great day for school spirit!!

I remember back to when I was in Jr High. We made stuffed animals and I gave mine to my sister, who still has it! To this day I can mend a tear if I need to. Right now our grade 7s are learning the skill of sewing by creating sock monkeys. The room was full of the pride of accomplishment. Great work guys.

Even in our small school we have students who have spares within the day. At times this can look like a typical teen picture of relaxation and social chatter. However, recently our students have been finding each other and agreeing on subjects of study or work. This peer help has been a delight to watch and has moved learning from an imposed task to a genuine journey of inquiry. I hope to do anything I can to support this for all of our students

If we are open, positive and ready, learning can happen anywhere! It's a treat to be with our gr 1 and 2s today for swimming lessons. The bus ride was a bit bumpy, but I haven't laughed that much with the young ones yet.

Fun, activity, inquiry, discovery, and celebration. Our grade 8s and 9s hosted a small science fair at our school today. It was wonderful. One student ran up to me, "that was so cool, I had no idea CO2 was heavier than air and could be poured!"

What happens when students enter a classroom but do not find desks or a teacher only a figure from the Renaissance?

A piece of learning they will not soon forget. Students are naturally inquisitive. Faced with this situation they began to ask; "who are you?", "what is that you are wearing?", "why do you do the work you do?", "if you are so miserable, why tolerate the monarchy?", and on it goes.
